{"id":1068,"date":"2018-12-04T10:02:49","date_gmt":"2018-12-04T10:02:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.whatsupineducation.eu\/?page_id=1068"},"modified":"2019-02-21T08:22:55","modified_gmt":"2019-02-21T08:22:55","slug":"toolkit","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/whatsupineducation.terredargine.it\/?page_id=1068","title":{"rendered":"Toolkit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This project has been part of the Erasmus+ programme, that is the EU\u2019s programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe.<br \/>\nThe general goal of the project was to <strong>improve Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) organisational and governance models through the exchange of experiences and good practices<\/strong> between the partners involved (pre-schools in Italy, Slovenia and Sweden). The partners represent different ECEC government and organisation examples.<br \/>\nWhat\u2019s up in education was focused on two main topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>organisational solutions that can improve ECEC services<\/strong> and contribute to increasing access<\/li>\n<li><strong>practices that can improve Families and community participation<\/strong> in the life of pre-school services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The main activities experienced during the project (Transnational meetings, Job shadowing, Local seminars) enable partners to share their own best practices and transfer and experiment some of them into their own communities.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.whatsupineducation.eu\/toolkit\/mantra\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1069\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1069\" src=\"http:\/\/whatsupineducation.terredargine.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/mantra-1024x768.png\" class=\"large-image-popup\" title=\"Toolkit\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whatsupineducation.terredargine.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/mantra-1024x768.png 1024w, https:\/\/whatsupineducation.terredargine.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/mantra-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/whatsupineducation.terredargine.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/mantra-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/whatsupineducation.terredargine.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/mantra-770x578.png 770w, https:\/\/whatsupineducation.terredargine.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/mantra.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Services organization<\/h2>\n<h4 class=\"toggle\"><a href=\"#\">Children autonomy<\/a><\/h4><div class=\"toggle_container\">\n<h4>Keep in mind to\u2026<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Promote children autonomy during routines and transition moments\u00a0(lunch, sleeping time, washing, getting dressed\u2026)<\/li>\n<li>Organise spaces and use materials that promote children autonomy<\/li>\n<li>Promote free play to support the learning process<\/li>\n<li>Have spaces regulated and managed by children<\/li>\n<li>Promote learning by doing: giving children the real chances to try, try again and experiment by themselves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Good and practical ideas:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Self-service during lunch: children can choose what and how much to eat, they take food by themselves<\/li>\n<li>Mixed age groups<\/li>\n<li>Give and allow more and slower time to children during transition moments<\/li>\n<li>Use by children of different strategies (billboards, photos of children&#8230;)\u00a0to\u00a0\u00a0\u201cregulate\u201d access to section spaces. In this way, children and teachers\u00a0know how many children are playing in space\/corner.<br \/>\n<\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"toggle\"><a href=\"#\">Outdoor activities<\/a><\/h4><div class=\"toggle_container\">\n<h4>Keep in mind that\u2026<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>You can go outdoor in any season and any weather: there is no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing<\/li>\n<li>Nature is a learning environment where children can acquire different skills<\/li>\n<li>Outdoor also means educational opportunities network in the local community (library, children library, museum, educational farms, wood,\u2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Good and practical ideas:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Have a toilet outside, in the garden<\/li>\n<li>Let children sleep outside<\/li>\n<li>Equip children well during outdoor activities (boots, waterproof coats, technical clothes\u2026)<\/li>\n<li>Let children experience nature-immersive activities (walks in the wood, playing with natural materials\u2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h4 class=\"toggle\"><a href=\"#\">Environment<\/a><\/h4><div class=\"toggle_container\">\n<h4>Keep in mind to\u2026<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Build an enjoyable atmosphere for everyone<\/li>\n<li>Use open and recyclable materials, from plastic to natural<\/li>\n<li>Use children friendly materials<\/li>\n<li>Build an inclusive and child-friendly environment<\/li>\n<li>Take care of adults\u2019 wellbeing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Good and practical ideas:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Create cosy and welcoming spaces and a \u201cwarm\u201d atmosphere, using relaxing and soft lights, tablecloths and plants<\/li>\n<li>Sound isolation<\/li>\n<li>Set up centres of interest, do not overcrowd spaces<\/li>\n<li>Have comfortable spaces reserved for teachers<\/li>\n<li>Use of different communication strategies and approaches<\/li>\n<li>Use of \u201calternative communication\u201d to describe the daily organisation or specific activities. A kind of \u201cscaffolding\u201d to support autonomy and to promote language competence of all children<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Families participation<\/h2>\n<h4 class=\"toggle\"><a href=\"#\">Supporting families participation<\/a><\/h4><div class=\"toggle_container\">\n<h4>Keep in mind to\u2026<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Involve families in extra-school activities<\/li>\n<li>Promote a family-friendly environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Good and practical ideas:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Guidelines for families and teachers for a \u201cgood cooperation\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Training activities for teachers and families together (participatory projects, training meetings, \u2026)<\/li>\n<li>Association of families and citizens interested to improve the quality of ECEC services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h4 class=\"toggle\"><a href=\"#\">Welcoming families<\/a><\/h4><div class=\"toggle_container\">\n<h4>Keep in mind to\u2026<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Try flexible access to ECEC services, closer to families needs<\/li>\n<li>Consider families as resources<\/li>\n<li>Have a trustful and professional approach to families<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Good and practical ideas:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Families meeting<\/li>\n<li>Breakfast together at school<\/li>\n<li>Playing workshops<\/li>\n<li>Individual interviews<\/li>\n<li>Organize trips into nature<\/li>\n<li>Enhance families\u2019 skills, talents and careers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h4 class=\"toggle\"><a href=\"#\">Communication and documentation<\/a><\/h4><div class=\"toggle_container\">\n<h4>Keep in mind to\u2026<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Support different communication strategies<\/li>\n<li>Share and show the educational experience in various ways<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Good and practical ideas:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Different tools and materials to document educational activities and learning process:<\/li>\n<li>Weekly-monthly letter for parents<\/li>\n<li>Documentary walls<\/li>\n<li>Videos<\/li>\n<li>Publications<\/li>\n<li>Exhibition panels<\/li>\n<li>Diaries<\/li>\n<li>Materials created by children<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>From logbook of teachers involved in job shadowing\u2026<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI was impressed by the practice of sleeping outdoors\u2026 the first day I was very worried and anxious\u2026How could I hear if the children were crying or were waking up? Fortunately, the teachers reassured me.!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn insight into the functioning of their kindergartens has contributed to my professional growth. At the same time, during the exchange, I met great people who made the whole experience fantastic..\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout freedom and chance of choice\u2026 We went for a walk with the children. Someone was sleeping on the stroller, someone was eating, others were chatting\u2026 very interesting!!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe trust in children and their abilities was an incentive, with which I returned to my own department and successfully integrated changes into it \u2026 both in the organisation of space and time, as well as in the pedagogical work itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey do a great job!!! Many new thoughts and insights, such as how they have built close and committed cooperation with parents and relatives, and how they have a clear introduction before the child begins preschool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is great that so many men work in these preschools. They have small spaces that they use in an incredibly conscious manner.
